Think like an engineer and create a special container to protect an egg in this fun egg drop activity for Camp Fun's STEAM Week! Use your imagination to build your device using the materials from this Egg Drop Kit, ranging from cardboard to craft sticks to straws. Once you have your egg carefully protected in its device, take it outside and drop it from a balcony and see what happens to your egg. If your egg cracked, don't worry, just experiment with a new approach!
Choose the materials from the STEAM Egg Drop Kit that you would like to use to create your egg drop device. The kit includes craft sticks, paper straws, packing peanuts, cardboard sheets, cardboard tubes, rubber bands, string and plastic sheets so you have lots of opportunities to get creative!
Assemble your device. We tried three different approaches:
1. Wrap an egg in plastic sheets and secure it between several paper straws bound together with rubber bands.
2. Put an egg in a cardboard tube filled with packing peanuts and cover the open ends of the tube with plastic sheets and rubber bands.
3. Suspend an egg with string from craft sticks glued to two pieces of cardboard. These are just a few ideas to get you started!
Now for the best part! Take your egg devices outside and drop them from a balcony or other height at least a few yards high.
Examine your devices to see if your eggs cracked or landed safely. Our eggs cracked the first round, so we went back to the drawing table and tried again!
