As I was planning our Elf™ Movie Party I wanted to incorporate as many nods to the movie as possible. In the movie, when Buddy is in New York City, he sees a sign in a coffee shop window that says "World's Best Cup of Coffee". He proceeds to go inside to congratulate all of the employees on their achievement! This is such a funny moment in the movie that I wanted to create my own coffee display. I created printable signs and inserts to fit the DIY Winter Mugs and DIY Travel Mugs. The printables say "World's Best Cup of Coffee" and "World's Best Hot Cocoa, Too!" I also painted a Natural Wood Diagonal Plank Tray to look like Buddy's elf suit and become the coffee tray in the display.
Start by drawing some guide lines onto a Natural Wood Diagonal Plank Tray with a pencil to create Buddy's elf suit.
Using the green acrylic paint from the Apple Barrel® Acrylic Paint Set, start painting the upper and lower torso of Buddy's elf suit. Allow paint to dry completely.
Next, paint the collar portion of the suit with white acrylic paint. Try dabbing and layering the paint to create a bit more texture and represent the fur of the collar. Allow paint to dry.
Apply yellow acrylic paint to the triangle shape at the bottom of the tray, representing Buddy's yellow tights. Allow the paint to dry.
Next, mix a small amount of brown and yellow paint together to create a gold shade. Use this paint for Buddy's belt buckle. Allow paint to dry completely. Using black acrylic paint, paint Buddy's belt. The top of the tray is now done! Again, allow the paint to dry.
Now it's time to paint the edges of the tray. Extend the same paint colors from the top of the tray around the edges. Your coffee tray is done! Set aside and allow all paint to dry as you move on to the last few steps of the project.
Download and print the printable designs for your coffee display. The printables in the set include two signs, drink stir flags, and inserts to fit the DIY Winter Mugs and DIY Travel Mugs.
Unscrew the tops of both the DIY Winter Mugs and DIY Travel Mugs and remove the white paper inside. Then replace with the "World's Best Cup of Coffee" and "World's Best Hot Cocoa, Too!" printable inserts.
Next cut out the "Congratulations!" and "You did it!" printable drink stir flags. Wrap and attach each flag to a Red Striped Paper Straw using double sided tape.
Arrange all of the elements of your coffee display on the table at your party and enjoy the world's best cup of coffee and hot cocoa!
