Making suncatchers is such a great kids craft and paint pens makes them particularly easy and mess-free for kids of all ages! We love these pretty fall leaf suncatchers so much we decided to make a mobile full of them to hang in a sunny window. It is a fun alternative to sticking them to the window and the addition of crystal beads in fall colors makes it an especially pretty piece of fall décor.
Use suncatcher paint pens to decorate the fall leaves. You'll want to paint at least 6 leaves for the mobile, so this is a great craft to do as a group! Have fun experimenting with different color combinations and leaf designs. Let dry overnight.
Cut a length of soft-flex wire and thread it through the hole at the top of each leaf. Tie in a double knot. String on several autumn crystal beads to decorate the wire above the leaf. You can tuck the excess wire from tying the knot in the beads to hide it.
Tie the other end of the wire to a medium wreath frame with a double knot. Trim the excess wire. Continue adding leaves to the wreath frame, varying the length of the wire to create different heights of leaves. Also make sure to add leaves to each of the three wire rows in the frame to layer some towards the inside of the frame and some towards the outside. This is a good step for an adult to help with!
Cut three equal lengths of ribbon, twine, or rickrack to hang from top of the mobile. Tie or glue one end to the outside of the wreath frame. Bring the three ribbons together at the top and adjust their spacing so that the mobile hangs evenly. Tie the top of the ribbons together in a knot and hang in a sunny window to enjoy.
