Is there anything as sweet as a family portrait done by a little one? I’m going with no. I just love those simple little shapes and whimsical details. We turned our family portraits into no sew Family Portrait Pillows for the perfect keepsake.

Have your kids draw your family portrait using Sharpie® markers on the canvas tote. I recommend placing a piece of cardboard in your tote bag so your drawing doesn’t go through to the other side.

Add watercolor paint using your paint brushes to your drawing. Keep the cardboard in the tote so the paint doesn’t seep through. We used a watercolor palette, but next time I’d like to try liquid watercolors. I think they’d seep into the canvas really nicely. With the palette you need to add a lot of water. The results were still nice though.

Stuff your tote bag with batting, also called pillow stuffing. Make your pillow as fluffy as you want, then take the handles and stuff them in the pillow as well. Tuck the edges of the tote bag in (essentially you’re folding the edge back into the opening of the tote, along with the handles) and glue the tote shut using hot glue, creating a nice seam.
