I love garlands as a simple Father's Day craft because they are simple to do and look so happy and festive. Plus, you can do this colorful Father's Day garland in less than 30 minutes with your child. Check out the easy how to below.
Cut out as many triangles from the fabric or watercolor paper that you need. We used paper because it was super easy and absorbs the spray paint really well.
Decorate the triangles for the garland with washi tape. This part is great for little hands. Learning to cut is an important skill that develops over time. I often recommend kids pull a little washi tape and stick the end to the table then cut the desired amount. They can also hold the end of the tape and let the roll hang down and cut. Both cutting tricks are easy to manage for little hands. You can spell out Dad like we did or just do fun designs.
Spray the triangles with all the color spray paints. I know they say for fabric but this is ART! It’s ok to break the rules a little bit. The colors are so vibrant and everything looks better in bright colors if you ask me. The spray bottles are best for kids about 5 and up, otherwise they can be a little hard to press down. If you have a younger child they can point to where they want each color and an adult can spray. When the triangles dry you can peel the tape off or leave it as is. Both methods look great.
Using a hole punch, punch a hole on either side of the triangle to weave the baker’s twine through. You could also use yarn or any string you have around the house. When all your triangles are on, hang your garland in a special place so Dad can see it!
