Balloons are hands down one of my favorite things to craft with. You might not think of balloons as a potential craft project, but the opportunities to decorate and embellish a plain balloon are endless! I have done a number of balloon crafts, and I especially love the challenge of decorating helium-filled balloons without them sinking! It turns out the featured supply for January Supply of the Month Challenge couldn’t be more perfect – light-as-air feathers! This feather assortment adds a colorful and fluffy touch to the base of balloons for pretty and unexpected party decor!
Inflate each 11″ balloon using the helium tank.
Tie each balloon to a length of curling ribbon. To prevent my balloons from floating up to the ceiling, I like to tie them to the top of my helium tank while I am decorating them!
Add feathers to the curling ribbon, starting at the base of the balloon and working your way down. Secure to the ribbon by putting a tiny dab of hot glue on the bottom tip of the feather.
I added 8-10 feathers to each balloon. Mine stayed afloat for over 8 hours which is the typical float time for a regular helium filled balloon! You can definitely experiment with adding more feathers, but note that the float time could decrease the more feathers you add, as they will weigh down the balloon.
If you prefer to use air-filled balloons instead of helium, you could attach them to these balloon sticks and glue feathers to the balloon stick for the same pretty effect!
