Make these spooky floating ghosts to add some fun to your Halloween decor! Floating ghosts look great hanging from trees outdoors or even placed on your fireplace mantel. Light them up with a glow stick or a tea light candle to give them an eerie glow.
Blow up a balloon with a bit of air to create a sphere shape. Place balloon into opening of cup. (see photos for example) This will help shape your ghosts while they are drying. Next, take a piece of the cheesecloth and lay it over your balloon and cup. Trim with scissors the length you would like to make your ghosts.
Dip trimmed cheesecloth into liquid fabric stiffener. I used the Mod Podge brand. Make sure the cloth is saturated. Squeeze out excess liquid. Pull apart the wet cheesecloth and place over balloon to dry. The cloth is very thin, so a few minutes in the hot sun and it will stiffen up quickly!
Pop balloon and peel off of dry cheesecloth. Shape your ghosts. Add wiggle eyes or black felt for eyes. Attach with hot glue.
If you plan to hang the ghosts from trees or a chandelier, use clear fishing line so that they appear to be floating.
