I love versatile craft materials. When I heard we were challenged this month to use colorful Bulk Feathers, I knew I could create something great from it. For this project, I decided to use the feathers in a unique way and I could not be more please with how my DIY Feather Artwork turned out! I love that you can the elegant silhouette of feathers in the artwork and I was inspired by the cheerful bold feather colors for the painted frames. Let’s take a look at how I was able to create this fun feather art!
Following the directions in the Sun Sensitive Papers, layout your pattern before taking the paper outside and into the sunshine. The day I created these was slightly breezy, so I pinned my paper down. I used pipe cleaners and the bulk feathers to create my designs.
Tip: Keep your paper in the sun for up to two minutes (depending on the sun intensity) and then come indoors
Submerge the paper in clean water for one minute. Set paper aside and allow to fully dry.
While my feather paper designs were drying, I got started on adding some color to my picture frames. I taped off the frames and used pastel acrylic paint color.
Once my paper was dry and ready to put in the frame, it was time to cut them down to size. A simple trick for doing this, is removing the glass from your picture frame and tracing it onto your paper. This helps so you can center your feather art. Next, just follow your markings and cut out the artwork.
Assemble the artwork in your frames and you are ready to display!
