Who says a Christmas garland must be traditional? This one-of-a-kind Geometric DIY Holiday Garland is as simple to make as threading together hand-painted shapes onto craft wire. Simple and oh-so stylish. Perfect for your holiday mantel. The texture of the glass beads and glitter balls add to the visual interest. You just need a few supplies and you'll love how it turns out.

First, color-block the square blocks from the Melissa & Doug® 200 Piece Wood Building Blocks Set. Paint one half of each side of a square block. To paint one half of a side use washi tape to create a diagonal across the block. Once dry, remove the tape, leaving a blocked diagonal shape on the face of each block side. Repeat for each side of the block. Note: I used the red square blocks and pink paint to create a color block that fit my color palette.

Next, spray paint the Round Unfinished Wood Bead Assortment a mix of white and gold. Then spray paint a selection of 3D Geometric Shapes black. You can change these to fit your own palette.

Next, when the painted shapes are dry, drill a hole through each one. To make the gold glitter balls, use gold glitter paint on the foam balls, then let dry. Once dry, drill a small hole into the gold glitter balls.

When you have finished drilling begin stringing the shapes onto a long length of craft wire. You can also use a needle and baker's twine to thread the string through each of the shapes. Pre-measure the length of wire or baker's twine required against your mantel, allow for slack so the garland hangs with a curve. Create a pattern as you thread. For example, gold ball, black block, color blocked, black block, white ball, gold ball and repeat. Use a selection of Green Beads as spacers between each pattern. The beads give a nice pop of color and sparkle!
