There are a lot of fun watercolor projects you can create that are geometric. These geometric hearts are especially fun to paint and are perfect watercolor project for Valentine’s Day.
Use a pencil and a ruler to lightly make a grid on your watercolor paper. Then sketch out your heart shape.
Choose what watercolors you’re going to use. Test them together on a scrap piece of paper. I used 5 different shades which was a good number. Start painting some of the triangles the first color. Since the paints can be really thick, it’s a good idea to mix a little bit of paint with a little bit of water in a palette (or on the lid of your watercolor set) before you start painting.
Start painting your second color. Just make sure that the first triangle has dried before you paint directly next to it or the two colors will blend together.
Continue painting in all of your triangles one at a time. I like to have a little variation in the colors inside each triangle. One easy way to do this is to add a little drop of water to some of the triangles while the paint is still wet. It will create an uneven “watercolory” look.
After you’ve gone through all of your colors, you might have a few triangles left. Go back and paint them whatever color fits best. And again make sure that all of the triangles next to them are completely dry first.
Let your painting dry, then go back with a quality eraser and erase all of the extra pencil marks. You can also trim your paper and frame your heart.
