One of my all-time favorite Fall books to read in October is The Halloweiner by Dav Pilkey. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. Since it is such a silly and cute story, it is perfect to read on Halloween day. I don't know if your school is like mine but we couldn't celebrate Halloween. However, we could read Halloween-themed books and coordinate subject activities to the book content. This seemed like the perfect jumping off point for my Halloween themed classroom activities!

Read The Hallowiener by Dav Pilkey. Depending on the grade level you're teaching you could either read this book aloud as a whole class or have students read by themselves.

Have students complete the Happy Halloweenie Craft. I love using these craft kits in the classroom because they come with all of the supplies perfectly portioned out for each student. No sorting needed!

After the wiener dog craft is complete, students can create a pumpkin patch scene with this sticker pack. Oh my goodness! You'd think I just gave them a million dollars! They loved creating this scene!

Once the students have created their wiener dog and fall sticker scene, they can brainstorm a story about what happens when their wiener dog goes to the pumpkin patch. They can name their dog and create a beginning, middle, and end. If you need a printable for them to organize their thoughts, you can find a free candy corn one I created a few years ago HERE. I also had them use their word spacers I found HERE.

Next, instead of the magnet that comes in the kit, we used glue to adhere the wiener dog to the cover of theses DIY Journals. The kids went crazy over these books.

Students finally put the pieces of this lesson together and published their story in these cute books. This turned out to be a keepsake! It was fun seeing them have the opportunity to be so creative with their stories.
