Welcome the birds into your yard with a darling teacup bird feeder that you can make yourself! This fun spring craft project is easy to make in less than an hour with just a few simple supplies. A flower stencil makes it simple to paint a large ceramic tea cup yourself with some craft paint and a paintbrush. Hang the tea cup bird feeder in a tree outside and enjoy watching the wildlife in your own backyard!

Step
1

Cut around the flower and leaf stencils that you would like to paint onto your tea cup with scissors.

Remove the paper backing from the stencils and place them onto your tea cup where you would like them to go. Because the cup surface is rounded, you might need to cut a couple slits on the outside of the stencils to help them lie flat. You can also use some tape to make sure the stencil is completely flat against the cup.

Mix up the paint colors you would like to use on a paper plate. I mixed two different colors of pink and then added some orange paint to make a pretty coral color.

Use a small paintbrush to dab the paint onto each stencil. I found it worked best for this project to use a small brush with lots of paint on it and gently dab the paint onto the teacup. This helped reduce the appearance of streaks.

Remove the stencil and repeat until your teacup is as full and colorful as you would like. I added small yellow dots around the cup to add more visual interest and I just love the way it turned out! You might need to smooth out some of the edges or fill in some streaky spots with a paintbrush to make everything look nice and crisp.

Paint the saucer with a coordinating color that matches your tea cup. Let it dry completely, then paint a second coat for full coverage.

Slip one end of a pearl necklace through the handle of the cup to make a pretty hanger for the teacup bird feeder.

Hold onto the pearl necklace to hang the teacup in the air, then place it onto the painted saucer to see how the tea cup naturally hangs. Use a hot glue gun to attach the teacup to the saucer so that the handle is straight up at the top. Hold in place for a minute as the hot glue dries.

Place some birdseed into the tea cup and add more to the saucer so that it looks like the birdseed is spilling out of the saucer. I used some bird seed to attract yellow finches that like to come into our yard.
