I wanted to do something unique for a childrens' activity for our Summer's Here BBQ. Something the kids hadn't already done a million times before. I came up with this fun yet so simple activity for after dinner and it was a complete hit with the kids! Here's how we went ice-digging for toys to kick off summer.
Start out with two different sizes of disposable plastic storage containers, plus lids.
Fill each container with a mixture of 10-12 little plastic waterproof toys from the Manipulative Character Assortment. It’s really important you only use durable, waterproof toys.
Then fill them with water, put the lids on, and let them freeze all day long until the party.
Right before the party started, I took them out to let them get a head start on thawing. Most of the kids attending were young elementary school/preschool age so I didn’t want the activity to be too challenging, but just be fun.
The Rules:
1) The kids could only use the tools from the play sets and their hands to dig out the toys from the ice.
2) They had to collect their toys in the buckets.
3) I made them all stand against the wall while I put each ice block out, then gave them a “ready, set, go!” and they excitedly got to work.
