Have your kids create these DIY books for kids that are sure to be a fun activity! The DIY board books are a fun DIY craft for kids to inspire their imaginations, practice reading and writing and let them become the author of their very own book.
Have your child pick the theme for their book. Once they decide on one of the themes, have them complete a more basic version of a story map.
A Story Map Consists of a Title, Author, Characters, Setting (the place and time of the story), 3 Main Events (what happens in the story), Problem, and a Resolution (how is the problem resolved or how did the characters find a solution)
Now it's time to design the Book Cover. Have your child illustrate their front cover of their board book with markers and foam shapes. Make sure to have them write the title and the author (them of course!). Explain that the cover should be a “preview” or give the reader clues as to what their book will be about.
It’s time to start writing! Fill the blank pages with the fun foam shapes and your story. I love how the foam shapes give the book a 3-D look.
