For kids' birthday parties I love creating easy, kid-friendly party foods. You can't go wrong with marshmallow pops and this super cute koala bear version is sure to be a treat kids will love! Here's how you can create these koala marshmallow pops to serve at your own Koala Bear Birthday Party!
Make the ears & nose in advance. To make the ears, pinch a small bit of gray fondant and mold into a rounded ear shape. Then, using a fondant tool or blunt knife, press 2 small dents into the bottom of the ear. Next, take a small bit of white fondant and mold it into a smaller ear shape. Using water attach the white to the inside of the gray ear. Take a small bit of black fondant (or dye white fondant) and roll around to create a nose. The koala nose is a oblong shape. Set aside to stiffen.
Pour some candy melts (approx 2/3 cup white to 1/3 cup black) in a microwave-save bowl. Microwave according to provided instructions and stir to create gray chocolate. Next, skewer marshmallows with Pink Paper Polka Dot Straws and dip the marshmallows into the chocolate.
Once the chocolate starts to harden slightly (not long after you dip the marshmallow), add the ears, nose and a small candy flower. If they slide or drop off, wait a minute or two longer for the candy melts to start to harden and then attach.
Tip: I used tweezers (very gently) to attach the koala features.
Once your koala is complete, put floral foam into a sweet lavender pail then stick the koala pop into the floral foam to completely dry for about an hour. Once dry, use a black edible marker to paint eyes onto the marshmallow. I drew both open dots and closed eyes with eyelashes.
Tip: To save time on the day of my party I made these the night before and left them in the fridge overnight.
Place the koala back into the pail and add green shred and a sprig of Faux Eucalyptus.
Finally, place the pails on the dessert table. Vary the heights of the pails using candy boxes and pastel gift boxes. The girls were able to take the entire pail with the koala pop off the table and eat them during the party or could take them home for later. They make a great favor option for a koala party.
