Earth Day, in April, is the perfect time to incorporate all things recycling, water preservation, saving energy, etc. I love reading books with my class, learning how to recycle, and of course incorporating an Earth Day craft! I always like to start my Earth Day study with reading a couple of books. Capstone® makes a set of four Earth Matters Books at are AMAZING! Each book gives great descriptions and details about Earth Day topics, such as: recycling, compost, renewing energy, and about our carbon footprint.
The Capstone® books include real, vibrant photos that clearly help describe the Earth Day topics. My favorite Earth Day resource, however, are the Learn to Recycle Activity Boxes. I haven't found any resources like this before! In years past, I have tried to find real items around the house to teach the kids how to sort items to recycle, but I can never seem to find enough examples, so these little boxes completely solve that problem! There are six different boxes included in this resource. I love the variety and it's great because you could use all of them or just a couple with your class. It is a simple way to differentiate among your learners! As a closing acticity, the students can write about one way they can help make a world at better place. Let them reflect on the books or the discussions that took place while sorting items to recycle! The Jumbo Globe Cutouts that make a perfect backdrop for their writing.
