Paint a DIY Slat Sign with acrylic paint and a sponge paintbrush. Allow time for the paint to dry.
Spray paint puzzle pieces in a couple different colors. We chose red and pink. Be sure to use a white primer first, so the picture underneath won't show through. Tip: This is the perfect opportunity to use puzzles with missing pieces or find one at your local thrift store. Want to make finding just the right puzzle even easier? Download, print and cut out the free printable I love you to pieces and heart templates. Place the heart template in the middle of the wood sign and lightly trace with a pencil.
Hot glue the painted puzzle pieces onto the wood sign using the traced heart as a guide.
To do the printed image transfer technique, apply a thin layer of Matte Mod Podge over the areas you will be applying the images.
While the Mod Podge is still wet, place the word printables print side down onto the sign and rub the image into the wood using a Wood Craft Stick. Allow the image to dry for 24 hours. Don't forget to download your free printable I love you pieces and heart templates here.
Use a spray bottle full of water to dampen the paper. With a gentle finger, rub the paper off, working from the outside edge inward.
Apply Glitter Glue to the sign using the transferred words as a guide. Allow time for the glue to dry. Enjoy your Valentine's Day sign on a wall, mantel or shelf for the Valentine season, and then move it to a child's room or play area to enjoy it even longer!
