Macrame is a beautiful, handmade tying technique using natural cord to create stunning vertical hanging decor. We’ve adapted a full sized macrame wall hanging into stunning wedding chair decor that’s on trend for spring, or any event. If you can tie a knot, you can make this stunning wedding decoration that does double duty as home decor, after the big day! If you want to get really crazy, weave in some flowers to create a flower like netting.
Tie a tight knot with one length of cord to create the hanger. Repeat at the other end of the twig.
Cut eight equal lengths of cord to create the macrame sections. Each length should be approximately 50 inches long.
Taking one section, double it over and loop onto the twig as shown.
From the left, count and collect the first four hanging strands. The center two will remain straight down. Loop the right strand behind the other three, toward the left. Loop the left strand over the other three, toward the right. You will then see where to pull the horizontal strands through to create a square knot. A diagram is provided to further demonstrate this process.
Continue to the next row, creating a secondary square knot between the strands, as shown. You will start to get a feel for the pattern technique as you complete this step.
Continue adding square knots until you have completed about seven or eight rows. Tie off the ends in tight knots, and fray the ends as shown. Trim with scissors to make them hang evenly.
The completed macrame hanging decoration is ready to be added to wedding chairs, a wall in your home, or anywhere a little boho flair is needed!
