Talk with your kiddos about the dream catcher legend and share with them photos for inspiration. Have your kids create their very own dream catcher to hang above their bed.

The Legend:

Dream catchers are a Native American tradition. The dream catcher is believed to protect a sleeping person from bad dreams. The purpose of the intricate webbing is to tangle the bad dreams and prevent them from passing through. The good dreams slip through the webbing and are passed on to the sleeping person.

If you are using the metal hoop, start by covering the hoop with the neon washi tape. Ella and Annie created a neon rainbow pattern by alternating the washi tape colors. Tear a small piece of washi tape from the roll and wrap around the metal hoop. Repeat wrapping with each color.

Take the yarn and cut a long strand. The longer the piece of yarn, the more times you can wrap it around the hoop. Tie the piece of yarn in a knot around the hoop. Pull tightly and begin wrapping the yarn around the hoop at various angles. Keeping the yarn taut, tie a knot at the other end.

Repeat step 2 with each color of yarn you would like to use as well as with any scrap yarn.

Add your feathers and beads. Cut a variety of lengths of the yarn. Tie each yarn piece to the bottom of your hoop. Make sure to knot them. Slide beads onto the bottom of the yarn pieces and tie a knot around the last one to hold the beads in place. Repeat this step with each strand.
