Did you know that you can achieve the look of watercolor without actually using watercolors? No, it’s not magic. This easy-to-do technique can be used on many different surfaces. Try it on paper, fabric, wood, ceramic; the sky is the limit!
Cut a clear thick plastic bag about the same dimensions as a DIY Journal. It doesn’t have to be exact, just eyeball it.
Scribble onto the thick plastic bag with markers. Create a vertical rainbow of colors or splotches of colors here and there to create different effects.
Use a paintbrush to apply a generous amount of water to the top of the DIY journal.
While the journal is still wet, place the plastic bag marker side down onto the top of the journal. Use your fingers to spread the color around journal cover. The more you mash, the more the colors will blend together. Once you have mashed and blended to your hearts content, let the journal dry. You can speed up this process by using a blowdryer to help with drying time.
You can either leave the journal as is, handletter your name or whatever you might be using the journal for, notes perhaps? For this journal, we decided to add a little sparkle with some Gold Foil Pineapple Tattoos. They are as easy to apply to canvas and wood than they are your skin. Just remove the clear cover, place the tattoo face down, wet the backing and hold in place until the tattoo has set. Remove the backing and allow the tattoo to dry.
