DIY Monster Mystery Boxes are the perfect activity for classroom Halloween parties. These boxes come together quickly and will have the kids squealing with delight as they stick their hands to find a prize in each box.
Take a piece of felt in a color that coordinates with the Monster box you are making. I used black felt for the Frankenstein box. You'll want to cut the felt to be close to the 5 1/2" size for almost all the monsters. I wanted to add some hair to Frankenstein so I left one side longer.
Before you glue the felt to the top of the box, cut an "X" in the middle so kids can reach in to grab a prize. I placed my felt on top of the box and got a feel for where the "X" needed to be before I started cutting. Once you have the "X" cut, you can glue your felt into place with either hot glue or Glue Dots.
Once your felt is stuck to the box, you are ready to give Frankenstein a haircut. I used scissors to give him a crazy cut by taking triangle shaped pieces out of his hair.
Now Frankenstein needs a face. Add some wiggle eyes, a mouth and scar with a Sharpie to finish up his look.
To make the other two Monster Mystery Box, you will follow all the same directions and add a lot of wiggle eyes in different sizes. Then draw on a scary (or not so scary) mouth with a Sharpie. Since I wanted this monster to stand out, I used patterned card stock for the paper covering.
To make the Mummy Mystery Box, just follow all the directions using a gray or light brown card stock for the background paper cover. Finish the box off with tons of white yarn. I made sure to leave an opening so I could add wiggle eyes as well.
Fill each of the Monster Mystery Boxes with things for the kids to feel. We added in Witch Finger Gummy Candy, Sticky Eyes, Pom Poms and Chenille Stems for spider pieces. Now you are ready for the Halloween Class Party! This activity is sure to be a hit!
