I don’t know about you, but when I think about decorations for boho chic parties, dream catchers and feathers are the first things that come to mind. For our recent Boho Chic Kids' Coachella Party we designed gorgeous larger than life hexagonal dream catchers, complete with yarn tassels and painted feathers. The only downside was, they were a tad too large to be hung as décor in the house afterwards. So I thought, why not recycle the feathers themselves into a beautiful wall hanging? Here are the steps you'll need to complete this DIY project.
Choose your paint colors. Starting at the bottom curved portion of the feather, paint your first color on a slight diagonal.
Continue painting your additional colors on the same diagonal angle.
Once the paint is dry, go back in and add any embellishments you’d like. I added gold and white dots to my feathers.
To give the feathers a more “finished look”, wrap the bottoms of the feathers in coordinating yarn. Add a dab of hot glue at the beginning and the end of the feather tip to hold the yarn in place.
Lay your feathers out in a row to determine your pattern then tie them onto bakers twine with a simple a knot. After all your feathers have been attached, tie the strands to your dowel rod or stick.
Hang your new painted feather wall hanging and stand back and admire! I hope this has inspired you to find fun ways to repurpose party décor into long-lasting décor items for your home!
