Watercolor Paper Plate Butterflies are a great craft for kids. Kids will love using watercolor paints and washi tape to make a colorful butterfly. If you have children begging for a craft project, this post is for you. My kids love all things watercolor, washi tape and colorful. This project combines the best of all of those worlds.
Hand each child a white paper dessert plate and a set of watercolor paints. Have the children paint the backside of the paper plate.
Hand each child a craft stick and some washi tape or magic markers. Let them create a butterfly body on the craft stick.
Let the children draw a face for the butterfly using a magic marker. They can use the googly eyes for a fun element.
Take a pipe cleaner and cut a 2″ long piece for the antennae. Fold in half forming a “v” shape.
Place a small dab of tacky glue to the back of the butterfly body.
Place the pipe cleaner antennae into the dab of glue and press to secure. Set aside and let dry.
Take the watercolor paper plates and cut in half.
Layer the paper plate halves together and cut a rounded “v” shape in the middle of the plates. Once I had the initial cut done, I would smooth and round out the edges.
Run a line of tacky glue on the edges of the watercolor paper plate pieces.
Place the butterfly body between the paper plate sides and press to secure. Set aside and let dry.
Once the glue is dried, your butterflies are ready to take flight. They all look so pretty together. It is so fun to see how each of the Watercolor Paper Plate Butterflies turn out.
