I remember as a kid loving to weave crate paper in and out of my bike spokes and adding streamers to the handlebars. Not much has changed, because my kids still love to decorate their bikes. Download the Free USA Banner Printable here! Print on white card stock (or matte photo paper for more vivid colors). Cut out the shapes and punch 2 holes in the tops of all the pieces.
Lace twine through the holes. I like to wrap a small piece of tape around the end of the twine to make it easier for the kids to get through the holes, and it prevents the twine from fraying.
We tied a piece of twine between the handlebars and set the patriotic pom poms over it. By putting the handles on one side and the tassels on the other, the pom poms are very balanced and stayed put without any other help. Then we tied the USA banner in front of the tassels and added the pinwheels.
The pinwheels are 2 separate pieces, so we left the sticks off of 2 and used glue dots to attach them to the handlebar as well. The pinwheels are 9″ tall so they make a huge impact, plus they spin while the bike is going, making this decorated bike even more fun!
The bike was looking pretty good just like this, I love the long handles of these huge pinwheels and thought they would be really fun sticking up behind the rider. They were the trickiest thing to add to the bike, but nothing zip ties and a little help from dad couldn’t handle. These patriotic decorations are a huge hit!
