Subway Art Popsicle Stick Coasters

These popsicle stick coasters are an easy classroom activity for students of all ages. With little preparation, teachers can have this project ready in minutes. The coasters make the perfect personalized Mother’s day gift and give students the opportunity to discuss what makes their mom so special. Teachers can also use this lesson to review visual art and writing content standards.

Place 11 craft sticks side by side. Take the glue and squeeze it up and down across the craft sticks.

Place another 11 crafts sticks on top of the glue. Allow the sticks to dry for a couple hours or overnight for best results.

Once the glue has dried you can begin decorating your Popsicle stick coasters. Use sharpies to create subway art. Ella wrote “Mom” right in the center and then wrote words around mom to describe me. (pretty cute, huh!?). Your kids can also choose to draw a picture or even use acrylic paint and paint the coasters.

Once your students design is complete, brush a thin layer of mod podge over the design. Dry completely. The mod podge will seal and protect the artwork.
