Resurrection Rolls are delicious and easy enough for kids to help make. They will also teach adults and children about the true meaning of the Easter holiday. I first made these with my girls when they were really young. We got the recipe from a friend and I’ve loved using this simple and delicious recipe to teach my girls about the real meaning of Easter.
- 6 Frozen Roll Dough Pieces, thawed enough to flatten out
- 6 Large Marshmallows
- Cinnamon and Sugar Mixture
- 1 Cup of Water
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray or line with silicon baking sheet.
Flatten out the dough into circles.
Dip a marshmallow into the water and completely immerse.
As your child is dipping the marshmallow in water, remind them that it represents Jesus because he was clean and pure, just like the marshmallow is clean and white. Dipping it in the water represents the oils used for embalming his body.
Roll the wet marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar mixture until it’s coated.
As your child rolls the marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar, tell them that spices were used to prepare His body for burial.
Place the marshmallow in the center of the flattened out dough and roll up tight. Secure the sides by tucking them under and pinching them closed. Set on prepared cookie sheet and repeat with remaining rolls.
Tip: The marshmallow tends to melt out so make sure to use baking spray or a silicone baking sheet.
Talk to your children about how Jesus’ body was wrapped up in cloth like the marshmallows were wrapped in the dough.
Bake the resurrection rolls at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown on the outside. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.
When the rolls are given out, have everyone open up the rolls to discover the marshmallow has disappeared. This represents Jesus being resurrected.
I love the tomb shape that each roll ends up making because of the marshmallow shape.
