Love is in the air at our Vintage Romance themed bridal shower, and this pretty parasol decoration is a perfect accent for celebrating a bride to be, a baby shower, a spring garden party, or just as beautiful home or garden decor. You can select your favorite blooms to use in place of the ones we’ve suggested here; just be sure to choose a variety of sizes and colors to get a stylish finished look.

(Protect your work surface and wear gloves if you are new to using a hot glue gun.) Open the parasol and lean it on your work surface with the outside top facing you. Apply a line of hot glue to each of the spines of the parasol, extending about 4 inches from the center. Working efficiently, press small pieces of the reindeer moss onto the hot glue with medium pressure; you don’t want to push through the delicate lace. The moss is creating a base for you to adhere flowers in the coming steps.

Apply hot glue to the outer edge of the moss, and add a large flower head. Working in a circle, repeat, around the moss until you have filled the area around the moss with flowers.

Once your large flower heads have been applied, you can add in clusters of smaller flowers, more moss, and leaves. Remember to always keep working in a circle to avoid creating any empty spots. A close up look at how our flowers were applied is provided below, but the design and mix of the flowers is not an exact science. You can do what looks best to you! One design tip to keep in mind is that groups of 1, 3 and 5 flowers will give the best and most natural look to your creation.

When you feel you have placed enough flowers on your parasol, you can finish off the outer edge with leaves. We applied these by lifting the edge of the moss, applying a bead of glue, and then layering the leaves under one another to achieve this varied look. Try pointing the leaves in slightly different directions, as well so that no pattern is apparent when you look at them. This is how real leaves appear in nature.

Stand back and take a look at your finished product, checking for any empty spaces. It’s a good idea to hold your project up to the light. If any light comes through, you can easily cover it with a bit of moss or a small flower. Again, this is not an exact science, the look is loose and natural, so it’s okay if you have empty spaces, just fill them in.
