Spring is undoubtedly one of the happiest seasons to enjoy, but what about when those warm breezy days have gone? Read on for our quick 5-step tutorial for DIY Pom Pom Petaled Live Cut Branches that will have you enjoying the colors and blooming bliss of spring year-round.
Choose a Pom-Pom color scheme for your DIY petaled branches. The particular branches pictured in this tutorial showcase a natural palette of soft green, white, yellow and pink, but you may choose instead to go with a more saturated or vibrant scheme. A few ideas for alternate looks—including a citrus vibe, grape palette and bold hot pink combination—are below.
Lay your cut tree branch out on a clean, flat work surface. Play around with different Pom-Pom placements by laying them along the branches without using glue. Keep in mind that a natural tree branch features buds that get progressively smaller towards the ends if you’re hoping to get a natural look. Using a small handful of pom poms rather than a big pile of them will also make your branches look more realistic. Less is more in this case!
Once you’re satisfied with your branch design and color palette, carefully pick up your first Pom Pom, and squeeze a dot of Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue right onto the fibers of the pom pom. Hold the pom pom between your fingers without touching the glue for 30 seconds to allow the adhesive to go from a runny consistency to more tacky in texture. Then, gently press the pom pom onto the tree branch, holding it in place for another 30 seconds to allow proper adhesion.
Continue gluing the individual pom poms to the tree branch using the instructions in Step 3. It’s okay if a few of the heavier pom poms slip slightly off the branch after a minute or so. Simply re-press the pom pom to the branch and it will eventually stick for good. The glue will dry clear, so feel free to use as much glue as necessary to get your pom poms to attach fully to the branch.
Allow the finished pom pom design to dry on the branch (or branches) for at least 1 hour before handling. Then, gently place your finished DIY Pom-Pom Petaled Live Cut Branches into a Large Cylinder Glass Vase. You may choose to leave the vase empty save for the branches, or you can fill the negative space with small rocks, pebbles or sand. After that, you’re all ready to style the finished decorative branches on your fireplace mantel, as a centerpiece in your dining room or on an entryway table!
