What could be dreamier for a Starry Night Wedding then seeing your guests' names written in the stars? This seating chart has a whimsical bohemian feel with the moon and stars coming together to start your wedding night with a twinkle! Begin creating your seating chart by painting7" wooden disks to resemble the moon. Start by painting the disks a solid light gray, and will then layer on a charcoal gray. Once you have blended in the dark and light gray colors using a fan brush, splattering a bit of light gray paint, then dabbing it with a paper towel, will reveal tiny "craters" on your newly painted moon. Once the painted moons have dried, add your table numbers to each, either by writing on them with a paint pen or Sharpie®, or if you have a cutting machine cut them out of blue vinyl. Next, cut long strands of both 3mm and 5mm natural cording to form the wall hanging portion of the seating chart. You will need to cut the cording twice as long as you need it as you will fold it in half when looping it onto your dowel rod. I cut my strands roughly 60 inches in length.
Now it's time to dye your strands of natural cording. I used Rit® DyeMore® in Midnight Navy for synthetic fabrics for this project. Wear protective gloves and cover your work surface, and then fill a bucket or sink full of hot water. Add 1/3 cup of dye to the hot water and mix well with spoon or pair of tongs. Fold each in half then, dip the bottom of the strands into the dye bath 3/4 of the way up. To achieve an ombre effect, dip the strands in the dye for a minute or so, and then pull them halfway out, leaving the bottom portion in for several minutes until you achieve a darker shade. Ring the water out, then hang the strands up to dry. Be sure to cover the ground underneath them, as the drips will stain your surface.
While the dyed cording is drying, use a gold paint marker to paint a mixture of sizes of assorted wooden stars.
Now paint one DIY unfinished wood star per guest with white paint. Once the paint has dried, push in the tip of a gold paint marker and gently shake it over the stars to give them a spatter painted finish.
To personalize the stars, either write each guest's name and table number with a paint pen or Sharpie® marker, or cut them onto blue vinyl using a cutting machine.
Once the dyed cording has dried, attach them to a dowel rod using a lark's head knot. To create the knot, fold the cording in half and then lay the tails behind the dowel rod. Next, slip the two tail ends over the dowel rod and bring them through the looped end. Pull straight down to secure the cording to the dowel rod. Continue this process until you have reached the end of your dowel rod. Add a long length of cording to each end of the dowel rod to hang your seating chart.
Now use hot glue to attach the personalized stars to the wall hanging portion. Cluster the stars together according to their table numbers. Once you have the stars situatued, hot glue the table number moons you created above their coordinating cluster of stars, directly along the line of the dowel rod. Fill in the empty spaces with the stars that were painted gold here and there.
Finally, hang your Starry Night Seating Chart at your reception to guide your guests to their seats.
