If you need a quick and easy way to say thank you, craft these adorable Swirled Paper Flowers! They can be displayed on a co-worker’s desk or on a bookshelf nestled amongst family photos. These flowers will definitely bring a smile to their recipient.
To make a flower, cut a 5-6” circle from colored cardstock. The circle doesn’t need to be perfect. From the outside of the cut circle, begin cutting a swirl until 2-3” of the circle is uncut. This uncut portion will serve as the base and final size of your flower.
Here is where the swirling comes into play. Begin rolling and swirling the cut swirl onto itself. Try to roll it pretty tightly so that when it unravels, it still keeps a swirled effect. Add a few drizzles of hot glue to the flower base and adhere the cut swirl to the base.
To finish off the flower, fold a 1” strip of paper in half. Cut slits into the strip to create fringe, but be sure not to cut the folded edge. Roll this strip onto itself and adhere to the middle of the flower with hot glue.
To create the leaves, fold a piece of green cardstock in half and cut out a leaf shape. Adhere the leaves to a coiled end piece of floral wire and attach it to the bottom of the flower.
Now to make things fancy. Use a sponge paint brush to adhere a layer of Mod Podge® to the bottom third of a glass milk bottle. While the Mod Podge® is still wet, sprinkle on some gold glitter and shake off the excess.
Cut a tag shape from cardstock and use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top. Adhere a length of gold washi tape to the bottom of the tag to add some interest, and to incorporate the gold glitter accent on the bottle.
Write a message, name or note onto the cardstock tag with a marker. Tie the tag onto the milk bottle with black and white baker’s twine.
Insert your flowers into the vase and your gift is ready to be received, displayed, and loved.
