Sensory bins are so fun and easy to make. I love teaching concepts with this hands-on experience. I find that little learners can grasp certain concepts a lot quicker when they can touch and explore with their hands. I love creating sensory bins for different themes, seasons and holidays. It helps get kids excited to learn!
First, grab a container with a lid. This makes for easy storage of your fall sensory bin when it is not in use. Fill the bin with bird seed. Any kind will do. Next, add in your stress toy pumpkins, feathers, acorns and pinecones.
Patterns are so fun to teach. Have kids show you and AB, ABC, AABB, etc. pattern with a few items from the fall sensory bin.
Add labels to gold plastic cups. Write a number on each cup. Let kids count out objects to match the number. Have them fill the cup with that number of items. It’s super easy to peek inside the cup to assess and see if the child is grasping counting.
Let students use a paper plate like this gold one for fall, and sort objects. Have them try storing by color, shape size, etc.
Have students line up the different objects to create letters or shapes, etc. You can even give them one to create. Like the triangle above.
Have the kids tell a fall story about an object or objects in the bin. This allows them to communicate and use verbal skills. Plus, kids love having the chance to talk and tell a story!
