We love this recipe for the softest sugar cookies! They are absolutely divine! We love making these for Valentine’s day with heart shaped cookie cutters. Make the soft sugar cookies the night before a party, then let little ones decorate their own cookies. Just add festive Valentine sprinkles!

Ingredients:

Makes 3-4 Dozen Cookies

1 C. Butter Softened
2 Eggs
1 t. Baking Soda
1 t. Baking Powder
1 t. Salt
1 1/4 C. Sour Cream
1 1/2 C. Sugar
4 1/2 C. Flour
2 t. Vanilla

Step

Cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy.

Step

Add in Eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step

Add dry ingredients in slowly, mixing after each addition.

Step

Blend in sour cream and vanilla. Mix well.

Step

Cover and cool in the refrigerator for one hour. (I cheat and cool it in my freezer for 10 min!)

Step

Roll out dough on floured area. About 1/4 inch thick. Don't add too much flower, just enough for the dough not to stick on your surface.

Step

Cut out shapes with a cookie cutter. Line parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Place cut out cookies about an inch apart on the cookie sheet.

Step

Bake 8 or 9 minutes at 350 degrees. Do not over bake. This is one key for soft sugar cookies.

Step

Let them cool for a few minutes before moving to a cooling rack. Use a metal spatula to move the cookies.

Step

Add your favorite frosting. We loved adding strawberry and vanilla frosting for these heart shaped valentine cookies.

Serve on a heart shaped doilies lined tray! Such a fun Valentine treat to take to a family party. We love decorating these soft sugar cookies at Valentine class parties.
