Need to make your own bulletin board? I used a roll of cork and applied it to a piece of plywood using contact cement. This is a great way to create a board at home while distance teaching. To get started, cover your favorite bulletin board in light blue fadeless paper. Once your board is covered you're ready to start mixing your borders together.

I just love to combine borders and make a thicker, layered look. For this board I layered the toucan border with the tropical leaves border and the black and white swiss dot border. I assemble one, get it the way I like, then use it as a template to make the others. Staple your layered borders directly to your board. When you come to the corners don't staple just yet, try to layer where the borders meet so the birds are on the outside edge.

Time to add in some depth. I like for my boards to feel full and textured! I used green tissue fans and the luau leaf hanging fans to create a layered look at the top of my board. I simply stapled these directly onto my board using my stapler. Using these at the top of your boards helps to save on using border trim.

Now you're ready to add words to the board. I used my colored printer and enlarged my font to a 450 pt. this makes my words very large. When I print them out they are perfect for a bulletin board! I combine these printed words with the punch-out bright bulletin board letters, mixing and matching the colors for just the right look. Use painter's tape to help get your letters on the board just right. Once they are in the right position on the painter's tape, staple them into place and gently peel the tape away.

Time to add in some whimsy! Using the colorful tropical bird cutouts I slid a bamboo paper straw under their claws and glued it into place. This immediately helps the birds come to life and look incredible. I also used mini tropical bird gift tags to add some fun to the letters. Just take off the twine and staple around your letters. For a finishing touch I added in some tropical leaf cutouts to the top of my board.

Add in a few pieces of colored cardstock and layer your tropical birds sitting on their bamboo sticks onto the top of each colored square. Next, simply print the "A new flock of work is coming soon" printables and staple them to your board. These printables are a great way to decorate a board while waiting for student work to be completed. Now you're all set! Your new flock will love seeing this bright, colorful bulletin board on their first day back at school!
