This Valentine Sensory Bin is a great teaching tool for little learners and is oh so easy to make. I’m a huge fan of sensory activities, and hands-on learning in the classroom, and at home. If children can learn with their senses, they grasp concepts quicker and retain those skills and lessons. Here’s how you can make a Valentine’s Day themed sensory bin for your own home or classroom.

In large gallon zipper bags add your 5 C. rice. You may need to divide this into two bags. Set half of the rice aside and leave it white. Add one tsp. vinegar and a drop of red food coloring for each cup of rice. Add more food coloring for a deeper red. Zip the bag tightly and then mix the rice until it is all covered. This takes just a few minutes.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Sprinkle the rice out over the parchment paper evenly. Place in an oven on warm for 20-30 Min. After taking it out, the rice may be dry or need a few more minutes. When the rice is dry, it is ready to be used.

Add the rice to your bin. Mix in the white and red.
