The wax in the crayon repels the water and lets you paint right over it. Create a magic picture with white crayon or use regular crayons; both versions create a stunning piece of artwork.
Grab a piece of watercolor paper and cut in half. We originally used the entire piece of paper, however I think they are too large for kids. Cut the watercolor paper into smaller pieces; in half or quarters.
There are two methods you can use for the watercolor crayon resist art; the first is using white crayons. The white crayon is magic for the kids in a sense when their artwork comes to life after they watercolor over their white crayon picture. The second technique is to use regular crayons. Have your kids draw a picture using crayons on their watercolor paper. Pro Tip! Explain that every area covered in crayon will "resist" the watercolor paints.
