This craft involves working with watercolor and glue resist art. Your kids can play with glue until their little hearts are content. I love that this art technique works for kids of all ages. Younger kids can be free to scribble with glue all over the canvas and the older kids can take the time to draw a picture; best of both worlds. The dried glue forms a template for the kids to paint on and around. Once they start to add the watercolor paint their designs come to life!

Project Time
45 to 55 min
Difficulty
Intermediate
Step
1

Draw a design on the white canvas, making sure not to cover the entire canvas in glue.

Step
2

Allow the canvas to dry completely. You will be able to run your fingers across the glue without it being sticky.

Step
3

Using the watercolor paints, paint over the dried glue on the canvas. You will notice that the glue “resists” the watercolor paint and adds texture to your painting. It provides a template of sorts for the artist to work with.

Step
4

Let the paintings dry. Have your kids sign their name on the artwork and hang for everyone to admire!
