Salt can be incorporated into art? Yup! Create our watercolor salt art with a few simple supplies. My kids were amazed at how the salt absorbed the colored water! You end up with a textured, vibrant, beautiful piece of art; out of salt! Hard to believe, right? You can choose to go two routes when painting the salt artwork. First, you can use the watercolor trays and brush, which takes a little bit longer. Second, you can use an eyedropper (be careful not to saturate the paper) and the liquid watercolor paints. If you are working with younger kids, I recommend sticking to the paint trays.
Use the Elmer's® glue bottle as your paintbrush and draw a picture onto the watercolor paper. Make sure to go light on the glue so that the paper doesn't get too heavy.
While the glue is still wet, sprinkles salt over the glue. Wait a few minutes and then shake off the excess salt. Let the glue and salt dry completely.
Using the watercolor paintbrush or eye dropper, add color to the salt. The salt will absorb the colored water and spread! Do not press hard on the salt when painting; gently brush over it.
