We created this stunning snowy scene as a backdrop for our "Waddle it Be?" Penguin Gender Reveal and we just love how it turned out! With soft, snowy elements and warm glowing lights, this display creates a winter wonderland in any party space. Use it as a backdrop for a dessert table, or leave the space open and use it for a Winter Wonderland Photo Booth Backdrop! Learn how to recreate one for your own celebration below.
First, determine where you will be hanging your backdrop and at what height. Hold the White Voile Sheer Fabric Roll at the height that you'd like the fabric to hang from, unroll it to your desired length, then cut the fabric with sharp scissors. Repeat until you have enough fabric to cover the space you'd like to create the backdrop for. To help you determine how many rolls you'll need, the fabric is 30" wide, and you should allow a little extra material for overlapping. I used four lengths of fabric for the backdrop I created.
Slide clip curtain rings onto an existing curtain rod, or a rod that you've attached to your wall using Command® hooks. Secure the lengths of fabric to the rings using the clips, overlapping the edges of each fabric panel just a bit. If you choose to use Command hooks, be sure to use hooks that can handle the weight of the things that you'll be hanging.
Next, beginning at the floor, wrap Clear White Wire String Lights up and over the rod, then back down to the floor again, repeating until you have several rows of lights that span from the floor to the rod, connecting strands of lights together as necessary.
Cut several strands of Baker's Twine that are long enough to hang from the rod and reach the floor. For our backdrop I cut five strands. Using a needle, randomly thread different sizes of White Tinsel Pom-Poms onto the twine, several inches apart from each other. Tie the strands onto the rod in between the strands of lights.
To create the snowflakes for this snowy backdrop, use a paper cutter to cut American Crafts White Cardstock into 6-inch squares. You will need eight squares per snowflake that you'd like to make. Fold each square in half diagonally, then with the folded edge facing up, cut five equally spaced cuts into the bottom raw edges, almost to the fold, creating six flaps of paper. Repeat with the rest of the squares.
Unfold each square so that the diagonal slices are facing upward. Fold the bottom two flaps of paper toward each other and overlap them just a bit. Use hot glue to secure the flaps together. Turn the square around and fold the next two flaps of paper toward each other, in the opposite direction of the first two flaps. Secure these two flaps together with hot glue. Turn the square around and repeat the process again, alternating sides until all that's left is the solid diamond shape at the top. Repeat with all squares.
Once all of the squares have been folded, hot glue the points of two of them together. Repeat until all six of the points have been connected and you have a snowflake shape.
Thread a piece of Light Pink Sheer Ribbon through a hoop of each snowflake and tie to the rod, positioning the snowflakes where you'd like them to be.
Use a balloon pump to inflate white, chrome, light pink and light blue latex balloons. Using a needle and fishing line, string the balloons together by threading the needle through the tied end of each balloon. Push the balloons together and arrange as desired until you have a strand of balloons that is the length of your backdrop. Tie each end of the fishing line to your rod.
Arrange a dessert table in front of the backdrop or use the display as a snowy photo booth. Enjoy!
