Turn a blank world map into frame worthy wall art with this fun craft project that allows campers to get creative with watercolor paints, glitter, or any other craft supplies you have on hand! Decorate the maps, label the continents and oceans, and frame. No two maps will be the same! Don’t miss the other fun activities for Around the World Week of Camp Fun including these simple Around the World Mobiles.
To add glitter to the maps, first set out on a protective area such as a large mat or plastic tablecloth to help contain the glitter. Pour a small amount of Mod Podge® into a disposable cup.
Use a small brush to “paint” a generous layer of Mod Podge® within a continent.
Sprinkle the glitter over the Mod Podge®, covering the entire area.
Shake off the glitter and apply a little more Mod Podge® and glitter to any bare areas.
To create a watercolor map, use a small brush to apply watercolor paints within each continent. You can even try a map that combines both watercolors and glitter!
If you want, you can create a colorful frame for your map using these picture frame cutouts and either watercolor paints or glitter. Two of the three frames that come with the pack fit the maps nicely.
We made a variety of different maps with glitter and watercolors, but you could also try decorating them with buttons, stickers, sequins, pom-poms, or other craft supplies for a creative multi-media art project!
