I'm a big fan of creating décor for parties than can be used as decoration for the home afterwards. This wall hanging would definitely turn heads in a boho woodland themed nursery, or as a fall statement piece elsewhere in the home. The beauty of this wall hanging is that it's completely customizable to suit the color scheme in your own home. Follow the steps below to create one of your own.
Begin by determining the overall length and width you would like for your wall hanging. You will be folding the cording in half to hang on a dowel rod, so be sure to double the length before cutting long pieces of both 3mm natural cording and 5mm natural cording.
Cover your surface area and fill a large container or bucket with hot water and follow the directions on the Rit Dye packets to mix your color bath. I chose a light pink, yellow and coral color for my wall hanging. To dye the cording, fold each piece in half and dip into a bucket of your desired color. The longer you keep it in the color bath, the deeper the color. Once all your cording has been dyed, hang or set aside to dry.
My motto is that if it's not nailed down, spray paint it and that doesn't end at silk flowers. If you can't find them in the exact shade you need, head to a well-ventilated area and spray them any color you'd like! I sprayed a few faux pink peonies coral for this project.
Now that the cording is dry, it's time to add it to a dowel rod. You could also use a small branch from your yard for a true woodland feel. To attach the cording, fold each piece in half, slide the looped part under the dowel rod and then bring the tails up and through the loop. Pull down to tighten onto the rod. Continue until all pieces have been added. I chose to add mine in an alternating pattern of five pieces of 3mm cording followed by three pieces of 5mm cording.
Next, begin affixing both faux eucalyptus and floral greenery along the top edge of the dowel rod using hot glue.
Tie a long piece of cording to each edge of the top of the rod and hang as a focal feature during your Foxy Mama Baby Shower.
