Grab your party guests' attention by creating this Balloon Cactus Backdrop and they'll be sure to stick with you! This balloon wall was created as a backdrop for our Cactus Inspired Galentine's Party dessert table, but would make for a fun photo booth as well. Follow the steps below to create your own balloon wall that is sure to wow your friends!
Begin by creating a cactus shape on the wall using painter's tape. I chose a simple two-armed cactus and just free formed the shape until I was satisfied with the height and width. You could also project a cactus shape onto the wall and lightly trace onto the wall. Using green painter's tape was easy to conceal since the balloons were also green.
Using the mini modeling balloon air pump, inflate multiple Modeling Latex Balloons and outline the shape of your cactus. If your balloons are too long you can always cut them shorter and then tie them off to customize their size. Bend and curve the balloons as you go and secure balloons to the wall using Glue Dots.
To fill in the cactus shape, inflate green and yellow balloons in full, then allow some of the air to escape and tie each balloon in varying lengths. Cut the long tail parts of the balloons off, and use the Glue Dots to stick to the wall. Continue until the whole cactus has been created.
To form the hearts, inflate multiple balloons in your theme's colors, leaving the ends just a bit uninflated. Twist the balloon in the middle, and then tie the two ends together in a double knot to form a circle. Start adding the circles to the wall by forming a point at the bottom, and then shaping the balloon around to form a heart, securing with Glue Dots as you go.
Several of my hearts didn't want to stick completely to the wall, so I added a few dabs of hot glue, let it cool slightly, then placed the balloons back onto the wall. This worked really well, and did not remove the paint when I took the balloons down.
