We've all got them—those junk-themed drawers filled to the brim with pesky, but necessary, odds and ends (think: tape, keys, stamps, coupons, etc.). Rather than simply tossing things willy nilly into the drawer, why not try this simple trick? We're sharing a tutorial for DIY Polka Dot Junk Drawer Bags made from personalizable makeup bags. See how we pulled this organization-friendly craft off (including bonus DIY patterned keychains!) using the steps below.
Mix acrylic paints in a paint palette to achieve your preferred colors. Then, use a foam paint brush to coat the round end of a bottle cork with paint. Stamp circles across your personalized canvas makeup bags to create a series of polka dots.
Allow the painted polka dots to dry to the touch for 30-60 minutes. Next, lay the round end of a clean bottle cork, a little off center, over one of the dots. Trace the round cork onto the canvas bag with a super fine tip marker or pen, and then go back over the traced circle with a thicker Sharpie® marker. Repeat this layered pattern on the rest of the painted polka dots on each of your canvas bags.
Remove the included white paper in one DIY keychain. Cut individual lengths of washi tape and press them onto the white paper so that the pattern lines up across the rectangle. Leave the rough excess tape along the outside edges. Flip the paper over and repeat on the other side.
Use scissors to remove the excess tape to leave a clean edge. Put the now-patterned paper back into the plastic sleeve of the keychain.
Slip extra house and car keys onto the DIY keychains and pack them away in the painted polka dot canvas bag labeled "Keys." File away your everyday coupons in the bag marked for "Coupons."
