Draw your guests' eyes up by creating a beautiful focal piece that hangs from the ceiling during your next gathering! This DIY Yarn Chandelier adds a gorgeous splash of color to pull your entire event together. Although we've styled the chandelier over our dining table during our Fall Boho Bridal Shower, it would be the perfect addition to a baby shower, birthday party, home decor and more! Follow the steps below to create your own stunning work of art.
Begin by removing the flowers from the gold hoop with burgundy peonies. Set them aside to reattach after you have finished creating the chandelier.
Cut several long pieces of natural cording and various colors of yarn to coordinate with your theme. Keep in mind you will be folding the pieces in half when attaching them to an embroidery hoop, so be sure to cut it twice as long as you need it. You can always trim the ends to be the perfect length once you've finished.
Remove the outer piece of a large embroidery hoop and set aside. For this project you will only use the inner portion of the hoop. Using a lark's head knot, attach the cording and yarn around the entire hoop. To create the knot, fold the cording in half and then lay the looped end over the top of the hoop. Next, slip the two tail ends under the hoop and bring them through the looped end. Pull down tightly to secure the cording to the hoop. Continue this process until the whole hoop is complete. Feel free to create your own eye-pleasing pattern. I attached mine in a pattern of seven pieces of four colors of yarn with both 3mm and 5mm natural cording mixed in.
Once you have added all the cording and yarn around your embroidery hoop, reattach the peonies from your original gold hoop. I used small pieces of yarn to tie them onto the embroidery hoop. Next, add in a few leaves and pieces of greenery behind the flowers. I tied these on as well, but added a few dots of hot glue in a couple places to ensure they stayed in place.
To hang the chandelier, simply tie four long pieces of yarn, fishing line or cording to the embroidery hoop in four places around the top so that they're directly across from each other.
Finally, hang your DIY Yarn Chandelier over your dining table, or other prominent place during your gathering for everyone to admire! We attached a 3lb Command™ Hook to the ceiling to hang ours and it held nicely for several days. The best part about the chandelier is it's lightweight enough to hang anywhere and can be gifted to the bride to decorate her and her new husband's home after the shower has ended!
