What is better than Halloween sticker crafts? Halloween with stickers and slime!! Lots of ooey, gooey, spooky slime.
This cauldron decorating & potion brewing craft is a new favorite craft for my little witch and her coven. It was the perfect craft activity at our Hocus Pocus Halloween Party. They don't say bubble, bubble toil and trouble for nothing!
The kids loved decorating their cauldrons and filling them with their own personalized fluffy slime potions. Let's get busy whipping up this potion with everyday household supplies and cast a spell for hours of fun and creativity.
The first step in this craft is preparing oodles of fluffy slime for the kids to use as a base in their "potions".
I had my older son, Harrison help me get a few batches ready for the younger kids. He LOVED it!
For this fluffy slime recipe first mix together:
- 2/3 of a cup of Elmer's® Gallon Jug of Glue-All® White Glue
- 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 1/4 Cup of Water
- 3 Cups of Shaving Cream (NOT gel)
Note: We batch made this single volume recipe get enough slime to fill the Glitzy Cauldron.
Next add food coloring (to your preferred color) and then slowly add up to 1.5 Tablespoons of contact lens solution. We added it bit by bit, kneading the mixture in between.
Note: The contact lens solution must have Boric Acid & Sodium Borate as an ingredient to interact with the glue and create slime. I used Renu Fresh.
Safety Tip: Adult supervision is required. For sensitive skin wear gloves when making or playing with slime.
Keep kneading the mixture. It will be sticky at first and then slowly it will no longer stick to your hands.
Make additional batches to get the volume required or to create additional colors.
Once complete fill the Glitzy Cauldron up with slime and put it in the center of the potion making table.
It is now time for your junior witches to start decorating their cauldrons. If you have a small coven, there are enough in a pack for them to make more than one. One for each potion!
I used larger Black Cauldrons to hold a mixture of decorative stickers - a Halloween Sticker Assortment, glitter Self-Adhesive Halloween Shapes, and Jeepers Creepers Eyeball Stickers.
They can also use scissors and cut strips of gemstones for their cauldrons.
Once their potion cauldrons were decorated it was time to mix the slime potions.
I used beakers, Mini Plastic Candy Containers with Lids and Mini Plastic Pedestal Candy Containers with Lids to hold potion ingredients.
Human Eyeballs (Black Googly Eyes &; Colorful Googly Eyes), Leprechaun Charms (Bright Sequin Assortment) and more.
Finally, once the potions are mixed the witches can fill the cauldrons with their slime potions.
They are now ready to take home for them to cast a spell on an unsuspecting brother or parent!
