Are you a Hocus Pocus fan too?! What is your favorite part? I instantly think of the Sanderson sisters flying off on makeshift brooms after theirs are taken by mini look-a-like witches. It makes me giggle every time Mary Sanderson flies away on a vacuum cleaner and Sarah flies off on a mop.
I thought these iconic brooms would make a great backdrop for a Hocus Pocus party. Use the templates provided and follow this easy tutorial to learn how to create this fun broom backdrop that will set the stage for your Hocus Pocus Halloween Soiree.
First, cut a large piece of Fadeless® Art Black Paper Roll. I cut out a piece that was 56" Wide and 42" High.
Once you have cut the backdrop canvas draw the 3 broom handles.
Start the first broom 9" from the left border and 6" from the top border. It should be 2" wide and 10" high. I used a ruler to measure these out. I rounded the top and left the bottom open-ended.
Start the second broom 15.5" from the 1st broom and the 3rd broom handle 15.5" from the 2nd broom handle.
Free hand draw the vacuum broom with chalk markers & color in with orange chalk pencil.
Next using 1" white alphabet stickers add the names of the Sanderson sisters along the left edge of each broom.
Or print out the provided text (download the template HERE) and cut out the text to apply to the backdrop using glue. I recommend printing in reverse so the text is white.
Or cut (using the Endless Sorrow font) out the words in vinyl on a Cricut and then add to the backdrop.
Or cut out the provided text and trace with chalk pen.
At the bottom of the 2nd (middle) broom create the mop head. Take the Black Mesh Tube Ribbon and cut one end to create the broom strands. On the other end that is still looped tightly wrap a length of Gold Washi Tape approx 1" down to create a mop head. Next, attach the mop head to the bottom of the broom outline using Glue Dots® - XL
On the first broom (far left) add broomstick twigs. I used two Light-Up Purple Twig Brooms to create the twigs.
First, I snapped and cut off the broomstick leaving just the purple twigs. Next I attached the broomstick twigs using a Surebonder® Cool Shot™ Low Temperature Fused Mini Glue Gun and Glue Dots® - XL.
Next, I added the words "Happy Halloween...Tonight We Fly" in Endless Sorrow font across the top of the backdrop.
You can use large 2.5" high white alphabet stickers. Or print out the provided text and cut out the text to apply to the backdrop using glue. I recommend printing in reverse so the text is white.
Or cut out the words in vinyl on a Cricut and then add to the backdrop. Or cut out the provided text and trace with chalk pen.

Finally, hang the backdrop using Glue Dots® - XL, alternatively for a stronger grip use command picture strips.
Once hung, set up the mantel in front of the backdrop.
