This backdrop takes retro design elements and pops of color to create an eye-catching piece of art for my Vibrant Mid-Century Modern Bridal Shower. The square and diamond pattern creates a second set of squares within the larger design.
This is an inexpensive project that is simple to create. Just follow the simple instructions for color-blocking in grids with bead accents. By the time you are finished, you will have a fabulous dimensional backdrop that's perfect for your celebration.
Paint 9 (or more if you require a larger backdrop) wood squares in a varied colors. I used blue, yellow and orange for this retro bridal shower palette.
I used my Cricut™ to cut a curved diamond shape. If you do not have a Cricut™ use the template provided. Print out the template and cut out the diamond shape. It is sized to fit the wooden square. Once you have cut out the diamond, trace the shape onto white removable / stick-on vinyl.
Next cut the traced shape out in vinyl and adhere to the painted wood square.

Next attach two Bamboo Skewers to the back (unpainted) side of each wood square. They should cross over in the center and reach beyond the edge of the squares by 3 inches
Tip: For the parts of the skewer that extend beyond the squares, ensure they are pointy ends extending to the outer edges of the backdrop to make it easy to add the beads.
You can use hot glue to attach to the wood. Alternatively, I used putty so I could adjust the sticks easily into position - the squares are super light, putty is sufficient for attaching the skewers.
Next, using mounting putty to adhere squares to the wall 3 inches apart. The skewers should touch the next square moving to the center.
The skewers should extend 3 inches out from the outer edge squares. On each of these place a bead on the pointy tip.
Tip: The putty makes the squares easy to move and adjust without damage to the walls
Tip: Where you have unnecessary lengths of skewer (doubled lengths between squares) snip the extra lengths off with scissors.
