We all know the cutest photos taken during a baby's first birthday party are taken while they're sitting in their high chair smashing a mini cake. Create a custom banner for a bit of flair for your high chair! The high chair will be front and center, so incorporating your party's theme in an adorable and creative fashion is a must. Our honey bee banner is the perfect finishing touch for a 1st bee-day party! Follow the steps below to craft a no sew banner fit for the Queen Bee! Begin by vertically folding the bottom end of a DIY canvas banner in half. Starting from the outside corners, cut a straight line to meet in the middle of the banner in order to cut a triangle out of the bottom. Next, remove the cording piece from the top of the banner. We will replace this with ribbon later.
Next, cut the hexagon shape and trace around it several times across the bottom of the banner to mimic honeycomb. Using a fine tipped paint brush, fill in each of the hexagons with yellow paint.
Download then print out the Free Bee Template. While the paint on the banner is drying, cut the bee pieces and trace the head, stripes and stinger onto black felt. Additionally, trace the body onto yellow felt, and two wings onto white felt. Carefully cut out each piece.
Start creating the honey bee by hot gluing the black stripes onto the yellow bee body. Next, add the head and stinger to the body. Glue the wings onto the back of the bee, slightly overlapping them on the pointed ends.
Next, hot glue the bee onto the banner. For a sweet, girly touch, add a light pink flower to the painted honeycomb from a pink flower garland. Add a bit of color to the top of the banner by alternating medium light pink, grey and black yarn pom poms with hot glue.
Now that your bee has been secured to the banner, put a little buzz in her flight by painting a dashed light pink flight line.
To finish the banner, hot glue a piece of yellow polka dot ribbon onto each edge of the wooden dowel at the top of the banner. And for an extra touch of whimsy, cut a few lengths of pink ric rac, grey satin ribbon and black ribbon and tie around the dowel on each side of the banner.
