Can I use any type of sand or will sand that is too coarse clog it? I was hoping to use sand from the beaches we group up at.

  • BEST ANSWER: I used the sand from here and it clogged it. Ilthe whole is super tiny and this sand is super thin so I guess it’s too heavy?

How much sand does it take to fill the bottom part of the hourglass???

  • BEST ANSWER: Hello, it takes quite a bit maybe 2 cups or 1 or 2 full bags but I don't really have a point of reference. I mixed 3 colors and used half a bag each. I purchased 2 of the 3 bags of sand from Oriental Trading but the sand is very fine and the opening is rather wide. It takes only 4 mins to run out. I timed it.
