BEST ANSWER: This is not to be used as an actual hourglass. The sand falls through the bottom right when poured.

How much of the hour glass is filled with one pound of sand? Is it half of the bottom section or all of the bottom section? How much sand is needed to fill it to the brim?

If you pour two different colors of sand into this, does it actually mix up or is going to be a layered effect?

BEST ANSWER: You need to pour a decent amount of sand in a one time for a layer effect. The hour glass is pretty big so it uses a lot of sand. Be careful to not shake the hour glass when you are done though or it will mix it a bit.
