Get that baker's twine out of the kitchen and into your craft room, because our simple tutorial for a DIY Leafy Baker's Twine Banner gives new meaning to the classic two-toned string! We're sharing all of the quick craftable details below, including a free printable template that makes the art of drawing leaves a breeze. Want to take things up a notch? Print the free printable leaf template, and cut each of the three leaves out using scissors.
Lay the cut leaf templates on top of your first DIY Craft Banner and trace the shapes onto the canvas using a pen. Press lightly with your pen since you'll just want faint outlines.
Run a line of Aleene's Original Tacky Glue along all of the pen outlines. You can be a little messy here since the glue will eventually dry clear!
Unroll a 3-to-4-foot length of Blue Baker's Twine from the roll (do NOT cut it) and gently lay the twine over the glue, following the shape of the leaf. When finished outlining the leaf with twine, cut the string and lay the pieces end to end for a closed finish. Gently pat the string down to make sure it's firmly sunk within the glue.
Do the same thing on the next leaf with the Green Baker's Twine, and then choose your favorite color of the two twines to finish off the third and final leaf. Note that, for sharper points on your leaves (specifically the Monstera Leaf, pictured here on the right in blue), cut individual lengths of twine to fill in each individual leaf.
Repeat Steps 2-5 on each of your canvas banners using the same cut leaf templates. When finished with the banners, allow them to fully dry for 5-6 hours or overnight. Once dry, the glue should be clear, leaving behind nothing but the pretty leafy twine shapes!
